“The Blot”

Reflections, portrayed in a broken mirror,
Shows she’s broken, in pieces.
She’s screaming for help,
But no one can hear her.
She’s bleeding from shards, cutting her deep,
He sees it, he likes it.

He isn’t willing to admit it,
He’s sickening; he hurts her – body & spirit.
All with a clear conscience,
He inflicts wounds; her heart and skin,
Are bruised.
With each blow she thinks:
“These years we've wasted?”
Stayed too long, could’ve been gotten away.
She wanted to wait it out, hoped the pain would not last any longer,
She thought he needed time.
Time; only made him stronger.

The kids.
She kept thinking her luck could change.
And it did after the first year,
Then he went back to the same.  He.
The Phase.

The phases:
                1. Sex her
                2. Bruise her
                3. Shower her in ‘sorry’

Flowers;
Dying on the table.
Her new “normal”,
There’s no getting away.
She’s unable.

Froze in the moments,
Afraid to leave,
Because he says he’ll kill the child,
And she loves the seed;
That God planted.

It only gets colder.
He gets home and continues to scold her.
The cycle starts over.
“You said were sorry.”
His drunken mind can’t comprehend.
She needs attention.
She’s bleeding again.

Reflections, portrayed in a broken mirror,
Shows she’s broken again,
Reflections through the broken glass, hasn’t made things clearer.

And it’s official:
                She’s gonna die right here,
                So she wipes her tears.
                So she wipes her tears.
                She can’t cry right here,
                With her kids right here.
“How will they live, if im dead?”
The thought alone plaguing her head,
Gives her strength to take a chance.

She packs her bags,
Finally does it.
She arms herself,
Because she knows if she escapes he’s not gonna take it.
But enough is enough,
She’s been through it too much,
She’s tired of his poker faces,
Now she’s calling his bluff.

She grabs the child,
And with a white lie,
Says “We’re going to lunch.”

And he just, sits…
